Fractions Toy

This dual purpose toy is a great addition to any play kitchen, and as your child matures, it also serves as an educational tool to help introduce the concept of fractions.

Play food pizza fractions toy includes three 4 inch pizzas with different toppings and varying numbers of flexible plastic pizza slices: pepperoni (two 1/2 slices), green peppers (four 1/4 slices), and black olives (eight 1/8 slices).  Each pizza sits inside its own pan and can easily be carried using the pan handle.  Spatula and rotary pizza slicer help kids "serve" this delicious treat. 

Toddlers will delight in "slicing" the pizzas, serving the slices, and sorting the pieces back with the matching slices in the pans. 

Advanced preschoolers and elementary children can be introduced to fractions through experimenting with this fractions toy.  Our play food pizza uses the tangible concept of pizza slices to help kids understand that fractions are "parts of a whole."  Each pizza slice has its part-to-whole (fraction) printed on the back.  The two pepperoni pieces have "1/2" on the backs, the four green pepper slices read "1/4", and the eight black olive slices state "1/8". 

Through viewing the printed fractions and seeing the concept illustrated through slices of a pizza, children can better understand the basic idea of fractions.  Eventually, this should help them be better able to think of fractions abstractly, instead of needing to physically see the pieces of a whole.
